Gulf Shores is conveniently located nearby to many interesting cities, parks, and other attractions. Here is a small sample of nearby activities:
- New Orleans — Bourbon Street and New Orleans’ unlimited night life is only a short three hour drive away. No extended stay in Gulf Shores is complete without a visit to The Big Easy!
- Biloxi Casinos — Located only about 1 ½ hours away you will find multiple casinos with a full menu of table games, slots, and poker as well as dining and boutique shops. All the casinos are newly refurbished with brand new machines and amenities.
- Battleship Alabama — This is a must see for everyone. Take a tour of the famous battleship and nearby submarine and memorial park located on Mobile Bay less than an hour away.
- Bellingrath Gardens and Home — These famous gardens on the south side of Mobile have been toured by millions of visitors. There is always a multitude of colorful plant species in full and spectacular bloom.
- Yacht Cruise — Take a scenic cruise of Mobile Bay aboard the Spirit of LaSalle. Dinner cruises available, reservations recommended.
- Dauphin Island Ferry & Aquarium — Take the car ferry from Ft. Morgan to picturesque Dauphin Island and spend the day at the estuarium and gulfarium on the island.
- Pensacola Civic Center/Hockey — This 10,000 seat arena has hosted many big name entertainers, is home to the Pensacola Ice Pilots, a semi-pro hockey team, and also hosts indoor soccer. The venue is open for public skating throughout the year, and also has a wide variety of exhibits and conferences each week…most open to the public.
- Amateur Sports — Pensacola is known as the “Amateur Sports Capital of Florida” for good reason. Every week the city is host to a wide variety of amateur sports events and championships. The lower Alabama area is famous for competitive college sports and is known as the College Bowl Capital of the South, hosting each year the GMAC and Senior Bowl.
- Baseball — Pensacola is home to the Pensacola Pelicans of the Southeastern Conference of Professional Baseball. Mobile is home to the Mobile Bay Bears, an affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
- Gulf Coast Science Center — All kinds of interactive, educational activities and exhibits, including a state of the art IMAX theatre.
- Beaches — The Gulf Shores beach right in front of the complex with its snow white sand is hard to beat, but visitors on extended stays should be sure and take a drive eastward along the Gulf front to see the dunes and waters that earned the nickname “the Emerald Coast” along Pensacola Beach, Navarre, Ft. Walton Beach, Destin, and east towards Panama City.
